A ceremony at the Harding Schoolhouse was held on Saturday, July 1st, 2006, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Howick Township and the 131st anniversary of the Schoolhouse. www.town.howick.on.ca
Former students, their descendents, teachers, and their families joined us for a get together and a reunion class picture which was taken outside the Schoolhouse. Over 70 people returned to the Harding school including students who had attended the school as far back as the 1930's through to the last year the school was in operation in 1963. Many had not seen each other since that time, so there was lots to catch up on and reminisce about their one room school house days!
The flag raising ceremony of the restored Harding Schoolhouse occurred October 22nd, 2005 with the Harding family in attendance to raise the Union Jack flag.
The Reeve of Howick Township, Rosemary Rognvaldson and the Reverend, Jeff Hawkins of Gorrie and Wroxeter United Church were in attendance to honour the occasion.
The Reeve said that the old Schoolhouse was "a gem in the Township and likened it to looking in the rear view mirror while driving". "If we do not look in the rear view mirror of our past, we do not know where we have been."
